Despite what the tabloids say, we didn’t just pop out of an egg. Don’t trust them. Here’s a quick, accurate-ish timeline of how Sunbird really got here…

Loose notes:

Birds are role models for sustainability.

Birds do it with attitude and altitude!

on the fly since 2010.

It all began in the small town of Wellfleet, here on Cape Cod. That’s where we (J’aime and Christian Sparrow) hatched Sunbird after returning home from a decade of life in San Francisco. We knew we wanted to bring the same approachable, ingredient-driven food we experienced out west to friends, family and neighbors here on Cape Cod.

Then there are the birds. This whole idea was actually inspired by a shared passion for the simple and sustainable lifestyle best illustrated by watching local birds here do their thing.

As our flock grows, so do we—evolving from a beloved bohemian food truck into a brand that serves seasonally-fresh culinary, design and retail experiences to our community and it’s visitors.

Our goal has always been to inspire you with what inspires us. After all, birds of a feather do flock together. It’s our recipe, and what Sunbird is all about.

Here’s how it all happened and why…

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a bird? Of course you have! Growing up here on Cape Cod, you realize the birds here become invisible. Unlike the rest of us, they blend in with the scenery and the seasons. Whether at work or at play, they live life freely with attitude and altitude! In 2010, they called us home from San Francisco to launch Sunbird.

What started as a bird-inspired food truck, grew into a cafe, and then into a lifestyle brand. Why? Because it’s fun to feed and inspire you with what feeds and inspires us!

We know we’re not the only ones who envy birds and how they live out here on the sandbar.

Loose notes:

Birds are great role models for sustainability.

Birds do it with attitude and altitude!

We just started “lifestyl’n” in 2020. And by started, we mean making some fun stuff for the website in… wait of it… a simple way that lets us focus more on ideas and inspiration, and less on production. Turns out it’s more efficient, and less wasteful too.

So basically, whatever we do at Sunbird — food, coffee, lifestyle products, having a beer — we try hard to make it simple and easy, for all of us!

Birds get it done. And this one does it in the sun!

 Things we believe in

  • Always give props when “borrowing” someone else’s ideas if you must.

  • Try really, really hard not to directly “borrow” someone else’s ideas — especially when they are nearby. When we do this, our community becomes richer, not more redundant and cannibalistic.

  • There are endless ideas out there. Look to the horizon, not just around the corner.

  • Be yourself, not someone else.

  • Be what you are, not what you aren’t.
